Starts off as a ‘quickie‘, and gets more serious because either:
- it’s been a long time, or
- we discover problems once the ‘bonnet is up’, or
- somethings already broken or not working when you bring it in…
Think of it as ‘changing the oil and replacing the air filter’ on a car, type service. We recommend you give your bike a ‘Half Nelson’ approximately every 12 months, or even less if you commute every day (in all weather conditions).
Typical work performed:
- Wipe down the frame and check the entire bike over for any problems, or ones that might be just around the corner
- Remove, clean and re-install the cassette and chain rings
- Remove, clean, re-install and lube the chain
- Remove, clean, re-install and lube the front and rear derailleurs
- Clean and lube gear and brake cables (or replace if necessary)
- Remove wheels, check and adjust bearings, check spoke tension and wheel ‘trueness’
- Check tyres for wear and correct inflation
- Clean brake blocks and braking surface of rims
- Check and adjust bottom bracket, pedal and headset bearings
- Check and tighten all components (including accessories)
- Adjust gears and brakes
- Test ride
Remember, the actual jobs performed on your bike will differ because our services are based on a physical assessment of the bike when it’s dropped off, together with its service history and any problems you bring to our attention.
A Half Nelson typically costs around $120 plus parts. For more detail, check out our pricing policy, or better still, drop in to the workshop, give us a call on 9388 1319 or email.
