The Full Monty

Usually starts off as a ‘Half Nelson‘, and gets more serious because either:

  • it’s been a very long time, or
  • we discover significant problems once the ‘bonnet is up’, or
  • a few things are already broken or not working when you bring it in…

Think of it as ‘reconditioning the engine’ of a car type service. It’s an ‘engine out’ job essentially.

We recommend you give your bike a ‘Full Monty’ approximately every 18 months, or even less if you use your bike regularly (in all weather conditions), or if it has been poorly maintained in between times (ie no ‘quickies‘).

Typical work performed:

  • Wipe down the frame and check the entire bike over for any problems, or ones that might be just around the corner
  • Remove, clean and re-install the cassette and chain rings (replace if necessary)
  • Remove, clean, re-install and lube the chain (replace if necessary)
  • Remove, clean, re-install and lube the front and rear derailleurs
  • Replace and lube gear and brake cables
  • Remove wheels, overhaul bearings, check spoke tension and true wheels
  • Check tyres for wear and correct inflation
  • Replace brake blocks and clean braking surface of rim
  • Overhaul bottom bracket, pedal and headset bearings
  • Check and tighten all components (including accessories)
  • Adjust gears and brakes
  • Test ride

Remember, the actual jobs performed on your bike will differ because our services are based on a physical assessment of the bike when it’s dropped off, together with its service history and any problems you bring to our attention.

A Full Monty typically costs around $200 plus parts. For more detail, check out our pricing policy, or better still, drop in to the workshop, give us a call on 9388 1319 or email.
