If you’ve got an old bike in the shed that’s been neglected for a few years, it may not take much to get it running again. A new chain, a little oil and new cables and tyres are almost always a better option than buying a new cheap bike.
If the bike is something special, or if you just love it, it may be worth spending a bit more sprucing it up a bit. A few new parts, some new tyres and an overhaul can make a bike feel like new.
In some cases a bike that is unsuitable for your riding as it currently is can be modified with different parts to make it into the sort of bike you would ride more often. Fitting different handlebars, adding mud guards and racks and changing the gearing can transform a bike.
If you’re trying to decide between a restoration and a new bike, bring your current bike in and tell us what you want from it and we’ll be able to give you some advice.
