If you need to haul it, a cargo bike is the answer. These bikes are built for carrying the weight and doing it comfortably.
Gazelle Cabby
In bicycle mad Amsterdam, Gazelle is the brand that fills the streets. The Dutch company, founded in 1892 have made over 13 million pushies to date. So it’s fair to say that their qualified to put out a cargo bike that looks like this.
We admit it looks a little strange, but it drives remarkably well. We have no fear taking it for trips down the Upfield bike path, and fully loaded. The Cabby is also perfect for the school run. An included child seat (with seatbelts) means you can get two toddlers down to the park on weekends, without the car. The bonus of carrying the kids up front, also means you can keep an eye on them, too.
Along with these great features is a dynamo – which powers front and rear lights, a built in lock and double kickstand. We’ve always got one instore at the Commuter Cycles Workshop (we use it for the Friday afternoon beer run) so pop in and take it for a spin!

Surly Big Dummy
The next step up in the packhorse category is the Surly Big Dummy. Looking very similar to the Radish, it also boasts a long wheelbase and is built from the ground up – to take whatever you can throw at it. The Dummy comes with Disc Brakes, and top end Shimano XT and SLX parts.
For the complete Specs, have a look over on Surly’s website
We custom built a very special Big Dummy up in 2009 for a special customer. (see photo above) If you’re keen to see this Surly with all the bells and whistles have a look over here.
Xtracycle Radish
If you’re in the habit of carrying a lot of gear, whether it be the kids, the shopping, your surfboard, the radish is for you. The longer wheelbase means that more of the bicycle’s weight is between the two wheels, not just over the rear one. This engineering results in a easy steering and better balance when you’re fully loaded.
We also sell the Xtracycle conversion kit, so you can turn almost any bicycle into a load carrying radish. Pop in for a chat, and we’ll tell you if your bike is compatible. More info is available over on Xtracycle’s Website
