Lights

No-one should leave home without them. You never know when you’re going to be out after dark and being seen on the road at night may save your life.

Many bicycle lights aren’t cheap, but this is something that you shouldn’t skimp on. A cheap light won’t survive Melbourne’s unpredictable weather or the few knocks it’s going to get from day to day use.  The quality of the seals and the mount are as important in the long-term as the brightness of the light, and these are the things that are normally sacrificed on cheaper lights.

To keep things simple, there are are two lights Planet Bike's 'Beamer 5'that offer excellent value and are up to daily use, with good seals, solid mounts and bright efficient LEDs -

Front - Planet Bike ‘Beamer 5′, super bright and securely mounts to just about any handlebar

Rear – Planet Bike ‘Superflash’, crazy bright 1/2 watt light, has spawned many copies, but no equals.

Our favourite set-up is a dyno-hub powered light.  We sell primarily Busch and Muller and Schmit lights.

Our best-selling, best value Dynamo-powered lights are:

Front – the B+M Lumotec IQ Cyo.  It’s a high-powered light you can see by, which is robust, well-made and mounts nicely to most bikes and has a stand-light function.

Rear - the TOPLIGHT Flat S Plus. It’s  very bright, sturdy, easy to mount on a rack and uses the stand-light function of the front light.

Have a look on the Busch and Muller web site here.

We’ve got plenty of other lighting options including other dynamo systems, lights for your helmet, rechargeable lights that are easily swapped between bikes and more.  We’re also advocates of reflective and high visibility gear.
